My Active Year is a habit tracker poster for any kind of training: one box for every day of the year, filled in by hand. Twelve months run across the top and days 1–31 down the side. There's a line to write in the year and a key at the bottom for your own colour code: running, walking, biking, yoga, gym, swimming, rest, other. Your colours, your system.

Why a habit tracker on the wall

Apps are frictionless, and frictionless is easy to forget. An empty box on your wall is harder to ignore. It hangs where you'll see it every morning, half awake, before coffee, and asks the same blunt question: will you fill the box today?

Once January is coloured in, leaving February blank starts to feel wrong. That does half the work for you. Guests see it too. A bit of social pressure is a feature.

How do I log different types of activity?
However you want. Runs, rides, swims, strength, yoga, hikes, long walks with the dog, rest days. Mark each day in a way that makes sense to you. Your log, your colors, your call.

Does this replace my watch or app?
Nope. Keep tracking splits, watts and heart rate wherever you already do. This is the yearly summary your apps never give you in one look: every session, every sport, the whole year on one wall.

What if I'm training for something specific?
Even better. Marathon, triathlon, first trail race, a big hike, getting back in shape after a shit winter. You'll watch the build-up happen block by block, and when it's done you'll have the whole cycle hanging there to look back on.

Good gift for someone active?
Hell yes. Especially for the people who already own all the gear. It's a way for them to see a whole year of showing up, whatever they showed up for.

Does it have to start in January? No. It's undated, so write in the year and start on whatever day it arrives.
